Yang Jae-Won
Abstract
This study was designed to explore the effects of narcissism (grandiosity, vulnerability) on procrastination and the role of a mediation of regulatory focus (promotion, prevention). Specifically, it was assumed that the promotion and prevention focus would be negatively mediated in the relationship between narcissistic grandiosity and procrastination, and that the promotion and prevention focus would be positively mediated in the relationship between narcissistic vulnerability and procrastination. A total of 340 college students completed a survey focusing on the narcissism, regulatory focus, and procrastination. The result indicated that promotion focus was negative mediated the relationship between narcissistic grandiosity and procrastination, and the prevention focus was positive mediated. The direct route of narcissistic grandiosity and procrastination was not significant, suggesting fully mediating effect. On the other hand in the relationship between narcissistic vulnerability and procrastination, the preventive focus was negative, and the promotion focus was positive mediated. The direct route of narcissistic vulnerability and procrastination was positive significant, suggesting partial mediating effect. Based on the results of the study, implications are discussed as factors for strengthening and weakening the regulatory focus in the relationship between type of narcissism and procrastination, and subsequent studies were suggested.
